Rowley Mossop joins panel on Talent Management and Diversity at the 2018 ACEC National Leadership Conference

Talent Management is a continuous, strategic function of successful Consulting Engineering firms. Specifically, Diversity and Inclusion are becoming increasingly key issues for these practices for attracting and retaining top talent.

Recent industry research shows that championing diversity and inclusion directly addresses challenges including skills shortage and retention of top talent. According to Deltek Clarity’s 2018 report, 8 in 10 Canadian engineering firms ranked finding quality candidates as one of their top three talent acquisition challenges, where 39% of firms take 31 to 60 days to fill an open position.

Our team sees these challenges echoed in the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) industries, where we help owners build and reinforce a strong inclusive culture. It is shown that the benefits of diversity and inclusion are tremendous, from reduced costs and increased workplace productivity to better decision making and increased innovation. By solving their talent management challenges, we help our clients realize these benefits over the long term. For creative businesses, a culture of inclusion is paramount to ensuring design staff feel comfortable to share their knowledge, perspective and ideas.

Our Principal, Rowley Mossop, will be a panelist for ACEC’s annual National Leadership Conference. His experience developing and implementing talent management, governance, and succession programs for businesses will bring a key perspective to this panel. On the topic of the Struggle for Top Talent and Diversity in Consulting Engineering, he joins other experts Erin Davis (Director, Global Talent Engagement, Stantec Inc.) and Marcia Friesen (Associate Dean, Design Education, Faculty of Engineering, University of Manitoba). They will help conference delegates develop a robust understanding of the relevant challenges, as well as practical solutions they can bring back to their respective firms.

Innovia is a Premium Associate member of ACEC Canada and Associate Member of ACEC British Columbia. Our team looks forward to joining the leaders of consulting engineering firms in Ottawa later this month.
